More People Rushing to FGY Art Gallery Christchurch to Visit Magnificence of Embroidery Exhibition
The Yao Hong-Ying Embroidery Exhibition was held at Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery 11 years ago, causing a sensation in the City of Christchurch then. It had now reappeared as the Magnificence of Embroidery Exhibition at the same venue since May this year, setting off a wave of enthusiasm about Embroidery in Christchurch. To date, around 3,000 people had visited the Exhibition.
Among the 3000 visitors, 30% of them had visited the previous Exhibition 11 years ago, and when they learned of the current Magnificence of Embroidery Exhibition, they brought along their friends to share in the joy. They were delighted to see Yao Hong Ying's exquisite embroidery works again, especially the unique double-sided embroideries. Some visitors had witnessed Yao Hong Ying's live demo at FGY Christchurch 11 years ago, and they could not forget Yao’s elegant posture as she fully absorbed herself in her work. At that time, they were worried and felt pitiful that Yao’s eyesight could be damaged by her over indulgence in her embroidery work. Until now, they were still very concerned about Yao’s eyesight and enquired whether the eyesight has improved or not. They were equally concerned whether Yao has found a successor to succeed her in the art of fine embroidery.
Among the visitors to the Exhibition, 30% were first-time visitors. Some of them learned about the Exhibition through words of mouth from friends and some through online social platforms or from Temple billboards. After their visits, the visitors were very happy and spread the information about the Exhibition to other friends. Many of them have repeated their visits to the Exhibition many times, and every time, they would proudly declare to the Gallery staffs that these were their second, third or even fourth visits. Christchurch resident Krissy had been continuously receiving information about the Exhibition from not less than five friends and neighbours. These persistent actions from her friends had prompted her to visit the Exhibition.
There were also many groups who came to the Exhibition after receiving positive feedbacks about the Exhibition. These groups included Walking Groups, Groups from Nursing Homes and local Embroidery Clubs. So far, 26 groups have visited the Exhibition. All of the visitors were amazed by such high-level artistic creations. No matter whether viewed from the works’ multifaceted compositions or from the Artist’s delicate craftsmanship, the embroideries were truly World-class creations. The visitors could not believe that the more than 30 works on display were from a single artist, and they spent long time appreciating each work carefully. Visiting the Exhibition made the visitors happy and opened up their minds and they vouched to introduce more people to the Exhibition before it ends.
