Local Botanical Artists Experienced Tranquillity and Enhanced Concentration in FGY
On 27th February 2019, led by their President Jacquie Carran, 7 members of The Botanical Art Society of New Zealand Inc assembled at Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch for a Course on Botanical Art. At the Gallery, the artists participated in the painting of botanical objects and thus became the first-ever Resident Artists of FGY Art Gallery Christchurch. Starting from the end of February 2019, this activity will be carried out on a weekly basis for a period of 3 months.
True to its name, the Botanical Art Society members will only produce paintings of botanical nature. When the artist paints, she will place a real flower in front of her and will then proceed to sketch, to scale, the flower on a piece of paper. After that, she will apply colours to the sketch. The medium of colouring adopted could be either colour-pencil or water-colour. These different media would produce distinctively different effects, but irrespective of which ever medium chosen, the painting will always come out in a most delicate, refined and authentic form.
President Jacquie Carran was of the view that FGY Art Gallery Christchurch has always been immersed in an artistic air. The artists are very happy to carry out their painting in such a pleasant environment and the wonderful environment has enhanced their concentration power and has resulted in better performances from them. They very much look forward to have their next week’s Art Course in this tranquil and peaceful venue.
