International Quilt Exhibition at FGY Art Gallery Christchurch attracts Seniors
The Cities of the World exhibition now being showcased at Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch has attracted hundreds of Christchurch locals since it opened to the public on 3rd April. A big proportion of the visitors are seniors and they are fascinated by the colourful quilt designs, taking the time to marvel at every piece, some even bending down to take a closer look at the hand-knitted patterns.
The exhibition included 30 artists from New Zealand, Japan and France. The participating New Zealand artists were enthusiastic when explaining the exhibit to their friends. Artist Julia Arden had specially invited her friends to the exhibition and gave them a personal tour, explaining the process of creation, the materials used, and the techniques being employed to knit a piece. The visitors were delighted with the exhibit and were very much appreciative of each artist's dedication, saying that they would introduce the quilt exhibit to more friends.
The exhibition was organised by Aotearoa Quilters (AQ), and featured some of the most representative landmarks from 30 cities around the world as the theme, with each artist from the three countries knitting a piece each to make a total of 90 pieces. To bring the exhibition to the rest of the world, the Cities of the World exhibition will travel to Japan and Europe after the inaugural exhibition at FGY Art Gallery Christchurch in New Zealand.
The Cities of the World exhibition will run for a month until 2nd May 2021, and it is hoped that the fantastic exhibition will spread by word of mouth to attract even more quilt art enthusiasts to enjoy the exhibition.
