The Commissioner’s Joint Focus Forum was held at the Auckland Waipapa Marae on the 26th February 2021. The host was New Zealand Police Commissioner Andrew Coster and with more than forty attendees included Minister of Police Hon Poto Williams, Deputy Commissioner of Police Wallace Haumaha, Minister for Diversity, Inclusion and Ethnic Communities Priyanca Radhakrishnan, Abbess Manshin and many other representatives of Community and ethnic leaders.

Chief of Police Andrew Coster shared the updates on key strategies issues for the year ahead as well as the Royal Commision of Inquiry on March 15, Waitangi & Commissioner’s address to Iwi Leaders. Per the report, the government is focusing on four key areas: strengthen the nation security against anti-terrorism measures, reform the rules around gun system, more support to the victims and strategy to cope with the growing metropolitan community.  Government is looking for the feedback from wider community and different ethnic groups that add value to the government decision making process.

In the group discussion, they revealed that the focus of the government this year would be to reduce racism and the recovery of every aspect of the nation after COVID19. Minister of Police Hon Poto Williams shared topics such as the reflection on the Police roles in this community, the government initiative movement of robust social cohesiveness as well as the elimination of favouritism and racism.
