Fo Guang Club Welcomes New Members at University of Auckland’s Clubs Expo with Joy
On 27th and 28th July 2020, Fo Guang Club committee members took turns to introduce the club to university students at Clubs Expo held in the University of Auckland. The stall visitors were thrilled to receive the ‘Three Acts of Goodness’ and ‘Five Harmonies’ bookmarks, alongside with the opportunity to bond with the committee members to know more about the club.
Among the stall visitors were Labour Party’s North Shore candidate, Romy Udanga and Botany candidate, Naisi Chen. Romy was impressed by the amount of activities done by Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple for the local community. “It’s all about people and that’s all that matters,” Romy and his personal assistant said. In addition, Naisi acknowledged the temple’s effort in organising numerous activities, which reflected on the amount of dedication put in by Abbess, venerables and the volunteers. When Naisi was briefed on the activities done during lockdown, such as online dharma reading sessions and gardening, she felt deeply impressed. “52 days of continuous online reading sessions were simply amazing! I feel happy that you managed to do that,” Naisi said.
Fo Guang Club serves as a bridge that connects university students to temple since it was founded in 2015, which provides a myriad of volunteering opportunities, leadership trainings and networking platforms to boost the soft skills of members. The President of Fo Guang Club, Edwin, expressed that he was delighted to see many students got back on campus in Semester 2. “It feels great to be able to promote Fo Guang Club and Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple to the university students again. A lot of students require spiritual enhancements, which can be conveniently provided by Fo Guang Club via a range of activities such as Deep Meaningful Conversation (DMC), meditation and networking events.” Edwin explained.
