FGY Art Gallery Christchurch showcases Cities of the World exhibition
On 1st April, Aotearoa Quilters (AQ) Director Julia Arden led 6 artists to Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch to decorate their international quilt art exhibition - Cities of the World.
The Cities of the World quilt art exhibition will run from 3rd April to 2nd May at New Zealand FGY Art Gallery Christchurch. There are 90 artists presenting one quilt art work each, 30 from New Zealand, 30 from Japan and 30 from France.
In order to be representative of the world, AQ selected some of the most iconic landmarks across the globe for the 90 artists to use in their quilt design. The Cities of the World exhibition will be hosted in New Zealand, Japan and France from 2021 to 2022. The FGY Art Gallery Christchurch is the first host venue, with future exhibitions to be held overseas.
Julia thanked the art gallery for providing such an elegant venue for the AQ exhibition, in such a way that the multicultural artists can display their work for everyone to see. By bringing artists from around the world together, she hopes that the quilt art exhibition will act as a source of inspiration that will also foster cross cultural exchanges between Eastern and Western art.
