FGS Auckland Qing Ming Dharma Function The Beauty of Filial Piety
On 4th April 2021, FGS Auckland conducted an annual Qing Ming Dharma Function at 8 am. Abbess Manshin and Venerables led the Dharma Function by chanting the Compassionate Samadhi Water Repentance. There were over 250 devotees participated in the function. The Dharma function was held in respect to the Chinese tradition of honouring our ancestors. The merits generated from repentance shall be devoted and shared with our ancestors and all the past life karmic creditors, so that they may be reborn in the Pure Land. Those who perform this virtuous act may increase with wisdom, health, and fortune in their life.
Abbess Manshin explained that filial piety in Buddhism encouraged the public to guide their parents to the right faith. This is so that they can live a good life and never suffer from reincarnation. Buddhism believes that filial piety should pay attention to the following three points: 1. Filial piety must be long-term rather than temporary. 2. Filial piety must be genuine, not superficial. 3. Filial piety must be comprehensive, not partial.
Abbess acknowledged the attendees for attending the Dharma Function early in the morning, praying for their ancestors and the karmic creditors from their past life. She appreciated the monastery and volunteers who made the function successful. Abbess encouraged the public to take advantage of participating in this Dharma Function to repent and reform ourselves by transform the faults in the past and improving in the future. She also wishes everyone to have peace, good fortune and excavating wisdom under the blessing of Buddha and Bodhisattva.
President of BLIA New Zealand North Island Chapter, Mr Lintao Yu, expressed his gratitude to Abbess and all Venerable for devoting their whole life to Buddhism and leading the public to accomplish virtue. He mentioned that this gratitude should be passed on and always kept in our mind.
