English Activities to Localise in New Zealand
To give a more understanding about Buddhism to the local community, Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island English Subchapter organised three consecutive activities on 30 September and the following Sundays. At 10 in the morning, 11 BLIA members from the English Subchapter continued the BLIA English Study Group facilitated by the BLIA English Subchapter team lead Sally Lim with the fifth chapter of “The Great Realisations: A Commentary on the Eight Realisations of a Bodhisattva Sutra” authored by Venerable Master Hsing Yun.
In the afternoon, a meditation class started with a chanting in the English version of Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra led by Venerable Zhi Wu of Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island NZ where 10 people followed. BLIA South Island NZ Deputy President then shared on ways to sitting meditation and walking meditation. They have practiced diligently over the hour.
BLIA member Craig Dee then shared his wisdom at the “English Buddhist Class” that is open for the public in understanding more about Humanistic Buddhism with the book “Core Teachings” where eight local Kiwis’ joined in understanding the chapters of “The Life of Buddha” and “How to Study Buddhism”. Questions were answered one after another in the class and participants get more insights of Buddhism. BLIA and FGS South Island will continue to localise in New Zealand and to have more people in getting touch with Humanistic Buddhism.
