End of Term Events- Prizegiving and Collaborative Challenges to Cultivate Important Qualities
A very fruitful term of learning The Dharma came to an end on Sunday the 10th of July. To celebrate the student’s application of right effort throughout the course of the term, the final lesson was spent engaging in a fun team building exercise - Blindfolded obstacle course and art challenge!
Students were organized into pairs. In their pairs, they took turns to be blindfolded and directed through the obstacle course by their partner. To safely navigate the obstacle course, they were required to have faith in their partner and listen carefully to their instructions. In turn, the partner providing the instructions was required to mindfully consider what words would best support and guide their blindfolded partner. This was a fine display of unity in action. Once successfully directed through the obstacle course students were then required to draw a picture of either a lotus flower or a sun. This task was a great opportunity for all students to develop their teamwork skills. All children involved in this activity nurtured their communication, patience, confidence, trust, and resilience. These are very important skills to foster and will serve the children in all aspects of their lives.
The second half of the session was spent enjoying delicious fried buns and partaking in an award ceremony. Thomas spoke to the students and supported them to reflect on their many achievements and learning successes from the past term. Venerable NengChang presented the students with their prizes and the class monitors spoke to the class. The students listened intently as Venerable NengChang encouraged them to find the treasures in their lives. Venerable told the students that the treasures mean good qualities within ourselves; and the more of these treasures we find the happier we will be. Students were also reminded to share this happiness with their friends, and always be thankful to those that guide them through the journey. The sense of pride and happiness emanated throughout the room.
We congratulate the recipients of the awards as follows:
Leadership Award- Carter Tsui and Zoey Loh
Diligence Award- Wish Chong and Raymond Chong
Perfect Attendance Award- Emmeline Loh and Issac Lim
Neat and Clean Award- Faye Tsui
All other students were gifted a smaller prize to acknowledge their active participation and progress in learning throughout the course of the term. This was an exceptional term of learning, and great growth can be seen within all the students. We anticipate the students will further blossom and flourish in the following two terms to come!
