Thank You New Zealand Police for Supporting the 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing Education Program
On 5th June, the second day of Emperor Liang Repentance Dharma Functions, Fo Guang Shan Temple Auckland invited seven police officers, including Ormiston Area Commander Inspector Scott Gemmell, Senior Sergeant Anson Lin, Senior Constable Matt Green, Senior Constable Marina Phillips, Senior Constable Mo'unga-E-Kaha'u Kaifa, Constable Piho, and Constable Paul Zhao from New Zealand Police and their families to attend the warm and moving awards ceremony. Abbess Manshin presented the award to the police officers for their wholehearted support over the years for the 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing education program and all other events held at the temple.
Senior Sergeant Anson Lin said since his first participated at the 3G4G education program eight years ago, he is extremely delighted to witness the growth of the participating schools from three schools with a few hundred students, to 25 schools and the involvement of over 7000 students, teachers and parents. This is truly remarkable. New Zealand Police wishes to continue to work with the Temple to pass on the value of 3G4G to more people, coherently building a harmonious community.
Senior Constable Matt Green has been with the police force for 18 years and currently work as a school community officer. He often travels to different schools to provide counseling service to the students. For this year's 3G4G Festival, Matt participated fully without missing a single activity. He expressed that he is proud of bringing joy to the students, at the same time, he had the opportunity to teach the students how to make the right choices in life which is very important for their development.
Constable Piho is a youth support specialist. Since 2016, he has been devoting in helping young adults around the age of 18 to stay away from crime. He enjoys mingling with the teens, especially the participation of the 3G4G Festival gave him the opportunity to show students a different side of the police officers. This would help students to face police officers without fear, and have the courage to communicate with the police directly.
Constable Paul Zhao said he was honored to be part of the education program for the first time which has allowed him to be in contact with more than 20 schools in just one month's time. Interacting with students as a Police, he hopes to guide the students to think wisely and enhance their abilities to distinguish between right and wrong decisions. Paul shared that the 3G4G values that students learned at the Temple will definitely have a significant influence on their future path of life.
