Discovering their Love at Traditional Chinese Painting Exhibition at FGY Art Gallery Christchurch
At Professor Kuo Yen-Chiao’s Traditional Chinese Painting Exhibition held at the Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch, his daughter Louisa Kuo, grateful to the Gallery for hosting the Exhibition, volunteers to act as a guide there daily.
On 12th August, artists Justine de Spa and her friend Pia Moser visited the Exhibition and they were taken for a guided tour by Louisa. Pia was full of praises for the traditional Chinese paintings for their ability to effect depths and meanings in a unique way. The mountainous scenery of a painting bestows an inner peace to the viewer, and the image of a stream gives rise to a sense of softness. The carefree life style depicted in the painting contrasts with one’s hectic life style and causes one to long for an escape therefrom. Pia was particularly drawn to the painting Spring Tour in Formosa as she could feel a sense of joyfulness looking at the colours in the painting. Apart from the exhibited paintings, the floral arrangements in the Exhibition Hall were pleasing to the eyes and made the visitor feel comfortable and welcomed. Pia promised to bring her friends to the Exhibition in future so that they too can enjoy the uniqueness of traditional Chinese paintings.
On her part, Louisa is ever willing to share with the public the many aspects of her father’s life, including his artistic idealism and inclinations, his life story, his creative journey, his masterpieces, and the meanings and connotations of his works. Visitors to the Exhibition are full of praises for the beauty of Professor’s paintings, especially his 3 award winning masterpieces namely: Village in the Mountain, Autumn Waterfall scenery and Stacking Green of Pine Tree. From the deeper meanings contained in these paintings, they can learn a Philosophy of life from another angle.
