Cultivating with Art – FGY Art Gallery Curator Attend the Annual Ceramics Exhibition Opening Ceremony
On 9 November, the Canterbury Potters' Association in Christchurch, held the 49th Annual Ceramics Exhibition opening ceremony at the Canterbury Museum. Venerable Abbess Manshin, the director of New Zealand's Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch, was invited to attend, and over a hundred association members, artists and people from all walks of life participated in the event.
Anthony Wright, the Canterbury Museum’s director, gave an opening speech, expressing his delight that New Zealand has passed the peak of the pandemic, and now people can return to the community with an open heart. He hoped that by holding various events, such as art exhibitions, the public can be nourished with culture and enriched with content. Trish Morant, the exhibition planner and the chair of the Canterbury Potters' Association, gave a speech thanking the museum for providing a platform for artists to exhibit their works. During the difficult period of the pandemic over the past two years, many art museums closed, and artists struggled to find exhibition venues. It is such an honor for association members to exhibit their works in such a representative venue as the museum, which also inspires them to move forward. Royce McGlashen, the special guest exhibitor, was delighted to exhibit alongside so many excellent ceramic artists and learn from each other.
Trish was overjoyed by the attendance of FGY art gallery Christchurch Curator Abbess Manshin, and expressed that the presence of the second gallery team provided great support to the Canterbury Potters' Association. Abbess offered her blessings to Trish and wished the exhibition success. The "Clay Works Ceramic Joint Exhibition" currently being exhibited at the second gallery was jointly planned by Trish and the gallery, leading 21 Canterbury Potters' Association members and receiving high praise for its high level of exhibition quality. Many familiar artists attended the opening, including ceramic artists who exhibited at the second gallery in addition to those who exhibited in the "Clay Works Ceramic Joint Exhibition."
The 49th Annual Exhibition of the Canterbury Potters' Association" features 136 ceramic works jointly presented by 47 Canterbury Potters' Association ceramic artists. The exhibition will run from 10 to 20 November 2022.
