Commencement of 2019 FGS English Meditation Class

On 3rd March 2019, Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island conducted its first Meditation Class for the year 2019 for the English speaking public. 8 persons attended the class and Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island member Jack Liu was the instructor. Majority of the participants were local Kiwis who showed great interest in Chan’ Meditation. Some were first timers while a few of them have practiced other forms of Meditation before and were here to learn the method offered in Chan’ Meditation.

The class started with a presentation of a short video on the basic knowledge and the methodology involved in Meditation. It went further to differentiate between Western Meditation and Oriental Meditation. From this video presentation, the participants were able to have a better understanding of the basic concept of Meditation. After this, the participants carried out Walking Meditation where they were asked to place full concentration on each of their step. Next in the Sitting Meditation session, Jack Lau taught the participants the proper sitting postures and the correct breathing technique. The participants took the lesson seriously and expressed great satisfaction in their learning. They said that they felt more relaxed after the Meditation and their concentration power was also enhanced.
