To commemorate the 56th anniversary of the founding of Fo Guang Shan (FGS), FGS Headquarters held the "56th Anniversary of the Founding of Fo Guang Shan - Synchronized Global Sutra Transcription" on 16th May 2022. FGS Christchurch Minister-in-charge, Venerable Jue Xi, led 30 people consisting of Temple devotees and members of Buddha’s Light International (BLIA) South Island, in prayers, sutra transcription and a host of other activities in FGS Christchurch.
Venerable Jue Xi led the congregation to first watch the video presentation of the speech by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, then to recite the Heart Sutra and copy the scriptures, and after that, to recite Master Hsing Yun's "Prayer for those who copy the scriptures and hear the Dharma", and finally to listen to Chief Abbot Venerable Xin Bau's speech as followed: “Under the blessing of the Dharma, the public should put their good thoughts together and engage in transcribing the Sutra whole-heartedly. Through this action of theirs, they are able to realize the compassion and wisdom of the Buddha. With the successful completion of the transcription of a "Heart Sutra", each person shall transfer the merit so gained to his family, friends and members of the community, and at the same time, he shall utilise his merit to pray for World Peace.”
Later in her speech, Venerable Jue Xi said that everyone should be familiar with his own faith and should be proud of becoming a member of BLIA. He must be truly happy every time he participates in the activity of BLIA. This manifestation of happiness will increase the public’s confidence in Buddhism at large, and BLIA in particular.
