Christ’s College’s Student experienced the fun and Joyous way of Humanistic Buddhism

44 students from Christ's College, visited the Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Christchurch The students were led by Reverend Cameron Pickering and two teachers, and were received by Venerables NengChang and BLIA South Island Board of Director Kok Wei Low and other BLIA members of the temple. This was the fourth time that Reverend Pickering had led students to the temple, and he stated that the school hoped to encourage its students to care for their community and learn about different cultures and religions.

During their visit, the students were impressed by the beautiful atmosphere of the temple's art gallery, and enjoyed ringing the bell in the courtyard. Kok Wei interacted with the students, teaching them the lotus hand gesture and the practice of meditation, and showed them a video about the life of Buddha. The students were engaged and asked many questions during the exchange.

Venerable Nengchang introduced the students to the concept of "Humanistic Buddhism" and the Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings, emphasizing that Buddhism is a practical way of life that can bring happiness to people. Venerable Juexi encouraged the students to treasure what they had learned during their visit and spread the message of goodness to their families and communities.

The students also enjoyed a "Happy Hour" arranged by the temple, and were delighted with the food provided. They left with unforgettable memories and expressed that their visit had benefited their daily lives. The school hoped to continue to have opportunities for cooperation with the temple in the future.

One of the teachers, Shirley, who visited the temple for the first time, said that the experience had left a lasting impression on her and she planned to return to the temple with her friends and family.
