Christchurch Elderlies Moved by Artist Wen-Jung Hsu’s Creativity
On 23rd March 2021, led by their leader Lena Methvan, twenty elderlies from the Lincoln Walking Group in Christchurch came to Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island for a social gathering. On arrival, they were received by Art Gallery staff Juin-Mei Chang.
Juin-Mei first led the visitors to the Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery to visit the After A Thousand Miles – Wen-Jung Hsu’s World Tour Exhibition. There, Juin-Mei introduced to them Artist Hsu's creative ideas and his art pieces on exhibition. The visitors greatly admired the ingenious art works and were impressed by the backgrounds behind these creations. For examples, the After A Thousand Miles theme sculpture narrated the footprints of Master Hsing Yun’s life dedicated to Buddhism; and the Ox series of paintings were the creations resulted from the profound friendship between Artist Hsu and the ox during his childhood days.
Among them, some elderlies had come to FGY Art Gallery Christchurch ten years ago to visit the Yao Hong Ying Embroidery Art Exhibition and they could still remember Artist Yao’s exquisite embroidery craftsmanship. After learning that the Embroidery Art Exhibition will again be held here in May 2021, the elderlies responded enthusiastically and immediately took note of the date of the Exhibition, and promised to attend its opening ceremony. They eagerly looked forward to this special Exhibition.
After the visit to the Exhibition, the visitors adjourned to the Water Drop Café for their meals. They were full of praises for the Café’s delicious vegetarian food and coffee, and for the Café staff's thoughtful services. Juin-Mei afterwards introduced to the visitors the up-coming Buddha’s Birthday Celebration- The Little Prince Family Fun Day and Baby Blessing Ceremony to be held next month at FGS South Island. The visitors found these events to be meaningful and promised to arrange time to attend. They would also introduce them to their families and friends.
