Christchurch Cancer Friends Group Visits Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery CHCH's Art and Food Exhibition
On 13th August, eleven members of the Kaiapoi Art Group from Canterbury, New Zealand visited the "Magnificence of Embroidery exhibition” at Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Christchurch. One of the team members, Ingrid Butcher, sent a letter of thanks on behalf of the team members on 15 August, thanking the art gallery for organizing such a high-quality embroidery exhibition, which allowed them to enjoy the exquisite embroidery works and the informative tours provided by the gallery staff. In addition to the exhibition, they also enjoyed a vegetarian meal at the Water Drop Teahouse and were very impressed by both the delicious vegetarian food and the presentation of the meal!
Ingrid Butcher felt that both the art gallery’s exhibit and Water Drop Teahouse’s service were very touching, and was impressed by the high quality of Buddhist-based life education. The members of the art group said that they would introduce more friends to the temple and let them know that Christchurch has such an elegant art gallery.
The Kaiapoi Art Group was formerly known as the Cancer Society, and each of the members had suffered from cancer or chronic diseases. As each of them underwent treatment, they saw the true good in others and became sisters whom encouraged each other. Some of them have recovered, while others are still undergoing treatment. In order to cheer everyone up, they set up an art group and found joy in art creation, which also became a topic of conversation between all of them. This visit to see the Embroidery exhibition by Yao Hong Ying had made them feel very healed indeed!
