Children Dharma Class - Paying Respects to Venerable Master Hsing Yun

01 / 07

The 12th of February marked the first lesson of 2023. This was an exciting occasion, and all the students were excited to return to The Temple to continue with their learning. Students received the results back from the test that was taken at the end of 2022. Teacher Nadine gave individual feedback to each student, outlining the strengths in their Buddhism knowledge and areas that needed improvement. It is evident that the students have been working diligently as there was a strong knowledge of 3 Goodness 4 Givings, Triple Gem and Buddhist etiquette amongst all the students. Some of the advanced students have also learnt about suffering and impermanence and will continue to deepen their understanding of this over the course of this term.

Votes were also cast to determine the new class monitors. After the voting process, Teacher Lisa and Teacher Nadine announced to the class that Faye and Tanush were the new class monitors for the term. A big congratulation was extended to them by all their classmates. Being a class monitor means that the students will have opportunities to shoulder more responsibilities and practice what they learnt in class.

Following this, morning tea was enjoyed in the dining hall. All the students chanted The Four Mottoes before eating. Anthan helped the teachers to distribute the snacks, and all the students practiced their dining hall etiquette. After this, the students returned to the classroom to practice the chanting Xi Fa Pu Ti Xin “Giving Rise to the Bodhi Mind”. After perfecting this, they visited Venerable Master Hsing Yun at the Memorial Hall. After being supported by the venerable to stand upright with their best smiles, they all offered light to Venerable Master Hsing Yun, paid respect with three prostrations, and chanted Xi Fa Pu Ti Xin. The students of Children Dharma Class learnt that Venerable Master has left his Dharma body, but out of great kindness, Venerable Master has made a vow to return one day. The teachers and students of The Dharma class will honour Venerable Master Hsing Yun by upholding the 3G4G and maintaining the Humanistic Pure Land.
