Children Dharma Class – Determination and Kindness are Key
On 20th of March, 11 students attended the online class that was led by teachers Sin Jun, Lisa and Jane. The class started with a short video of The Story of Buddha. Teacher Jane then led the students through a reading which prepares and introduces the students to Triple Gem. The students learnt that Triple Gem is the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. Respect should always be shown as Buddha represents light and wisdom, henceforth students can learn from Buddha’s teachings while they guide themselves to righteous paths.
This was followed by an interactive PowerPoint which was used to explain the Triple Gem in a greater depth along with some questions and answers. It helped to catch the eyes of the students and it was certainly delightful to see some of them asking questions when they were unsure about the concept. After grasping the concept about Triple Gem, the students were able to relax their minds through various exercises which were conducted by teacher Lisa. The students followed the moves along excitedly with the video that was shared. Through moving their bodies and muscles, the students feel refreshed after the concentrated learning session.
Teacher Sin Jun then led the class on with Bodhi Light Tale #38: Live Saving. Students were able to see that a doctor had chosen to save an injured woman despite being in a hurry to catch his flight. The important concepts of putting others before yourself and always showing kindness was emphasized through an interactive game of Kahoot. "Are we doing Bodhi Light Tales and Kahoot today?" mentioned the class eagerly. It was fascinating to see that the students were so looking forward to the Kahoot which they greatly enjoyed and able to learn important concepts from. Before the end of the class, students were also encouraged to participate in the writing and drawing competition by Nantien Chinese School of Sydney as it would be a great way to enforce the awareness and to show their concerns towards climate change and global warming.
