BLIA South Island Donated Hand Sanitisers to Christchurch Schools

01 / 14

Until today, the Delta pandemic in New Zealand is still on high alert. Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island cares about the health and pandemic prevention of the community. On 23rd September 2021, BLIA South Island Director’s committee Kok Wei Low led 3 BLIA members to Christchurch schools to donate hand sanitizers. Seven primary and secondary schools were the recipients of the donations, namely, Te Kōmanawa Rowley, Hornby, Merrin, Ngutuawa, Mt. Pleasant, St James and Te Waka Unua.

The principal or school representative represented the respective school to receive the hand sanitizers. They thanked BLIA South Island for the kind deed and were of the view that the schools can take this opportunity to raise students’ awareness on pandemic prevention. Melisa, the representative of Ngutuawa School, said that the school’s hand sanitisers were almost used up. They had planned to buy them but the market price was high. At this time, receiving hand sanitisers was like receiving rain in time of drought, which was of great help to the school. On that day, BLIA South Island donated a total of 600 bottles of hand sanitisers.

At the time of donating the sanitizers, BLIA members also took the opportunity to promote the 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing programme and the Laba Congee Sharing activity to the schools. The schools felt that these activities are very meaningful because they allow the students to participate in activities of a different culture, which will broaden their horizons. St James Catholic School signed up for the above two activities. Lisa, the principal of Merrin School, expressed her interest in these two activities and requested BLIA South Island to provide more relevant information.
