BLIA NZ Members touched by reading Master Hsing Yun’s New Book
In order for Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) members to connect closer with Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the BLIA South Island NZ first Chapter organized a Humanistic Buddhism Caring group Book Reading session on 22nd June at the Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island temple. The Chapter President Louisa Kuo was the session leader, and there were ten other BLIA members present to read Master’s new book “I did not become a monk for food” together.
Under President Louisa Kuo’s guidance, the BLIA members first sang the song “Buddhism depends on me”, so that members could understand the fact that Buddhism needs the support of young people and everyone else. Then, they began to read the book’s Preface section, followed by the Foreword section written by Professor Kao and Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-Yu. This sets the scene on what the book is all about and people’s opinion on this masterpiece. The BLIA members realized how Master Hsing Yun really has a strong selfless spirit, to not even think of what Buddhism can do for him, but to think of what he can do for Buddhism.
The Caring group Book Reading club shall continue to read the book over the next four weeks, and they will digest the wisdom contained within and present it in a song-like form at a BLIA seminar to be held on 27th July. The BLIA members said that they have started to read the book’s contents on their own time and will have more to share at the next sharing session.
