Approach from the Ministers to the Community- Brief and Update on Government Response on Covid-19

FGS South Island BLIA member Kok Wei Low attended to a meeting hosted by Paul James, Chief Executive Department of Internal Affairs on 21st April. Over 60 communities and religious leaders attended, as well as Hon Jenny Salesa, Minister for Ethnic Communities, Dr. Ashley Bloomfield, Director General of Health, Caroline Bridgland, Director Office of Ethnic Communities, Meng Foon, Race Relations Commissioner and etc.

Minister for Ethnic Communities, Hon Jenny Salesa was concern about the community’s health and safety, and hope to cooperate with the leaders to understand the need of the people. Furthermore, concern about financial hardship of small businesses and racism towards Asian community as well as students’ issues are being raised up by other leaders.

Caroline Bridgland, Director Office of Ethnic Communities mentioned that ECDF is increasing on few sections such as translation for over 23 languages, the safety and wellbeing of all.

Hon Jenny Salesa concluded by sending gratitude to all communities and religious leaders for cooperating to help the society and encourage them to keep in touch with the minister for further update and hope to overcome the disease together.
