In order to implement the concept of community service, ANZ bank Asia division South Island branch Manager Jia He led five staff members from the Upper Riccarton bank branch, including Zhang Kai Kong, Li Jing Lun, Zhou Yang, Gong Ping and Tang Zi Zhuo to FGS South Island NZ to do some volunteer work on 29th  January. They were greeted on arrival by Temple Minister in Charge Venerable Jue Xi.

BLIA South Island NZ Director members Cao Qian, Kok Wei and BLIA YAD members Apple Ma and Harold guided the volunteers. The temple cleaning area included the central courtyard, dining hall and outer perimeter of the building, with the main task being general cleaning and removal of the lanterns from the Chinese New Year celebrations. The volunteers arrived at 9.30am, and started by taking down the lanterns and decorations in the courtyard and dining hall. They took to the job in a careful and meticulous manner. Later on, Kok Wei took them outside the temple building to clean the water pond. All of the volunteers treated every task handed to them seriously and paid strong attention to detail, and with all the teamwork, they finished the water pond cleaning in no time.

After everything was finished, Venerable Jue Xi presented the volunteers with some gifts on behalf of the temple to thank them for their service, especially for all the hard work cleaning the outer temple grounds. They were also grateful to the temple for this opportunity to give a helping hand. The volunteers felt very happy and gained a lot of valuable experience, and they look forward to coming again to the temple to help out in the future.

Before leaving, the volunteers been encourage to ring the happiness bell in the courtyard, putting a wish in for the new year. They also took home a slip of Master Hsing Yun’s words of wisdom, picking up some good charm and fortune along the way.
