A Long-awaited Visit of St Martins Elderlies to FGS South Island

01 / 12

On 12th May 2021, led by their leader Janette Morris, 11 elderlies of St Martins walking group in Christchurch visited Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island. They were received by Fo Guan Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch staff Juin Mei. Despite the heavy rain that day, the visitors were undeterred in their determination to visit the Temple.

In this visit, Juin Mei first led the elderlies for a tour of the Magnificence of Embroidery Exhibition by Hong-Ying Yao, the Infatuation Exhibition and the Life of Buddha Exhibition. She then guided them to visit the Time corridor and the Library. At the Art Gallery, the elderlies were deeply amazed by the delicate and lifelike works of the Embroidery Exhibition and were even more intrigued when they used magnifying glasses to examine the details of the embroideries. Some of the elderlies had visited the Embroidery Exhibition 11 years ago. They were now very happy to see the exquisite embroidery works again and some of them still had clear memories of some of the works exhibited 11 years ago. At the time corridor, the elderlies were impressed by its ingenious design, and at the Library, they were awed by the wide collection of Buddhist books there.

After the tour, the elderlies adjourned to the Water Drop Café for their meals. They were full of praises for the delicious vegetarian food and refreshments served there. In the day’s visit, the elderlies patiently spent their time admiring every corner of the Temple. They were filled with joy and thoroughly enjoyed the Temple’s beauty and tranquillity. They looked forward to their next visit here again and promised to arrange more time for a longer stay.
