4th Sem Online Children Dharma Class 6 – Showing Loving-kindness to Others

01 / 05

The 21st of November marked the 6th online Children Dharma Class of the fourth semester. This week, the focus of the class was Art and Crafts led by Gwen, Lucy and Jane, with 16 children aged 5-11 in attendance. Jane started the class with the chanting of Ode to the Triple Gem 三寶頌. A few students, such as Zoey, Raymond, Zacky and Irene, even took on the challenge of chanting, and it was great to see how engaged and eager they were to participate.

Gwen then led the class with the long-awaited Folded Fish Art. With markers and colour pencils, the students created some colourful and creative fish pieces. The teachers were amazed at the beautiful art pieces that the students created and were glad that everyone had fun. The students were given guidance at every step, but they were also able to express their creativity and ideas freely. "After I finished drawing the fish, the colour was teal, pink and white. I named it Candy Floss since it looks like candy floss," shared Emmeline.

As Christmas was around the corner, the students watched a video on A Christmas Carol. Afterwards, Jane led the children in an interactive PPT presentation in which they discussed the story's values and learned more about them. Raymond shared about his learning on the importance of showing kindness to others, and how it could positively impact our relationships with the people around us.

Following the video sharing, Lucy guided the children through a fun and exciting activity called Would You Rather.  The students especially liked it as they could choose between the foods they wanted while performing exercises associated with their choices. This activity was also a great way to initiate the children's mental and physical thinking by activating the mind and body. "The kids were brilliant, and it was nice seeing all of them so energized and exercising!" expressed Lucy.

Before coming to an end to the class, Gwen guided the students through some yoga poses to stretch out after this rewarding day. Lucy then concluded the class with a scoreboard presentation to encourage more students to participate in the class actively.
