4th Sem Online Children Dharma Class 5 – Can Anger Help Solve Problems?
The 14th of November 2021 marked our fifth Children Dharma Class for the fourth semester. Three teachers, Lisa, Yvonne and Carol led the class and one of the students, Zoey led the craft session. Carol started this class with the chanting of Ode to the Triple Gem, letting the children experience the beauty and the calming effect of chanting. Few students such as Emmeline, Zhihan, and Irene also bravely took the challenge to practice chanting.
After the chanting, the class was continued by Yvonne with the podcast from Bodhi Light Tales entitled Turtles and the Cranes. After the podcast, Lisa emphasised that getting angry does not solve problems; working hard to resolve a situation does. This proved that Children Dharma Class could instil many good moral values and cultivate a good seed in their heart.
One of the students, Zoey bravely taught the students how to fold a balloon with just paper and scissors. It is fascinating to assign Zoey as a teacher to guide her friends in folding the balloon. Everyone joined this session actively and showed their unique artwork. Zoey shared that she had fun stepping up as a teacher and was a bit slow in her first class. This showed how the class could become a platform for the students to learn and grow as a team.
Before coming to the end of the class, Lisa had an entertaining session with the children in Spot the Differences. This session demonstrated the picture in PPT with animation and gaming characters that they are familiar with, such as Sponge Bob, Minecraft, and Peppa Pig. Yvonne expressed that Lisa’s session was creative, so students were passionately to join.
Being able to collect points through Kahoot!, answering questions and expressing their opinions enable the students to stay excited and engaged throughout the class. Carol said that it is great to be one of the teachers in Children Dharma Class, and it is a good idea to assign a student as a teacher because this could enrich their life experience from a younger age. At the end of the class, a warm and fun reward ceremony involving online prize-giving ceremony was presented to the students to encourage their participation.
