Artists at Work in FGS Temple South Island
Artists at Work in FGS Temple South Island
On 26th July 2020, 4 members of Christchurch Artists Club came over to Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island to carry out their painting activity. They were welcomed by Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island Director Kok Wei, Low who then took them for a tour of the Temple, including the Buddha Hall, the Fo Guan Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch, and the Courtyard. The Christchurch Artists Club is formed by 7 amateur artists who like to carry out their painting at different location each month. By rotating their venues, the artists hope that the varied environments can trigger their artistic inspirations, thus further enhance their creativity.
The artists were full of praises for the tranquil and pleasant ambience of the Temple especially that of the Courtyard, where they later chose to carry out their drawing activities. In the Courtyard, the artists fully exploited their individual talents, with some painting the flowers and plants, one sketching the statue of the little Sami, and another drawing the garden scene. At the end of the day, through their concerted efforts, the artists were able to produce lively drawings capturing the essence of the objects they painted. Before their departure, the artists revealed that this was the first time they had carried out drawing activity inside a Buddhist Temple. They felt extraordinarily peaceful and at ease during the entire session, and were quite satisfied with the works produced. They promised to share their joy with other members of the group by bringing them to FGS Temple South Island for their future drawing session.
