BLIA South Island Participated in 2023 Oceania Buddhism Examination
The Buddha’s Light international Association (BLIA) South Island held the 2023 Oceania Buddhism Examination on August 6. 26 BLIA South Island members were participated, quietly going through the sheets of questions during the exam from the books "Buddha-Dharma, Pure and Simple", and answering attentively.
After the examination, BLIA members were actively shared their experiences of participating in the exam. BLIA South Island Subchapter Advisor, Louisa Kuo expressed that the revision conducted during the weekly Reading Group sessions before the exam was able to deepen their memory in order to cope with answering the questions.
President of BLIA South Island Subchapter 1, Tiffany Su shared: I am very happy to be able to participate in the Oceania Buddhist Examination at the Temple. The exam encouraged me to read more books by Master Hsing Yun in my daily life, and the preparation before the exam allowed me to develop closer relationships with fellow members. Vice-president of Subchapter 1, Heidi Lee thanked the Temple for arranging pre-exam preparations to improve members’ knowledge of Buddhism which would help them in practicing the Faith in their daily lives.
BLIA Dharma Lecturer, Rona Ku, expressed her gratitude to BLIA Oceania and BLIA South Island team for the hard work. The significance of the exam is not in how much one has scored, but in how much, by reading Master Hsing Yun’s books to understand the Dharma more deeply. Armed with this newly gained knowledge, in addition to purifying oneself, one is also able to use the Dharma wisdom to positively influence family members and even society.
One of the BLIA South Island Committee, Lynn shared: I am grateful to the organizer for providing the compiled and condensed materials to accelerate the learning. Buddhism is vast, as mentioned in the book, "If one eliminates the ignorance, one will gain wisdom”. I enjoyed the fun and joy with all throughout the time.
BLIA South Island Youth Adult Division (YAD) member, Kaixin Sim shared that she was afraid of exams in the past, however she found out that the exam could lead one to self-discipline to study hard, to find out one’s shortcomings, and to adjust oneself accordingly. Kaixin was grateful to Abbess Manshin and BLIA members for their encouragement thus she became more confident to participate as well as after some preparation session with fellow YAD members.
After the exam, the Temple specially prepared light refreshment to reward all the participants. The participants also appreciate the effort of BLIA Oceania for the organizing and arrangement.
