2022 Term 4 Class 4: Tolerance Towards Others
On October 30th, the students of the Children Dharma Class began their lessons with a prize for those that achieved outstanding results in Buddhism Examination; the recipients were Carter, Faye, and Cody. The children then chant the Chinese Heart Sutra under the guidance of Teacher Edwin.
One of the students in the advanced class, Anthan, took the initiative to help guide the students with the Bodhi Light Tales. The students listened attentively to the 13th Bodhi Light Tales, Baby Monkey Waters Flowers and tried to understand the moral values behind this tale. To enhance their learning, Anthan provided the students with questions that helped them children reflect upon their learning. This proved to be a great idea as Anthan inspired the children to be wanting to teach in the class. The students also learned that it is essential to accept that everybody makes mistakes and that we must help others improve themselves.
The morning tea session was held in the dining hall, and the children enjoyed it in a quiet and orderly manner. Students were also taught about dining etiquette and proper sitting posture whilst eating.
After the morning tea, the children returned to class and were split according to their groups. Firstly, in the advanced lesson, Edwin taught the students about the importance of the five precepts. Carter learned that principles are to be upheld and to feel regret and remorse if accidentally broken, whereas Anthan learned about Parajika, not to kill whether with or without intention.
Teacher Wendy and Elly led the intermediate class; these students were given the Three Acts of Goodness worksheet. They learned to be grateful for the things around them, especially their clothing, and reuse it for other purposes if worn out.
